In the time of AI, and in the context of everything atomized, digitized, in a world of IoT, where every Midjourney image is ever more detailed, polished but without a breath of life, or spirit. I painted small, abstract and whimsical "small rugs" which I call PETITSTAPIS. These are rough, with stains ,smudges, bavures. They all are "unfinished" suspended in time, waiting patiently to be looked at, an invitation to dream.
Nowadays, everything is language, The words on a page, music in all its forms, sciences, as well as the Arts (with a big A) are different manifestations and revelations on how we perceive and communicate with the universe. All these are fed to the voracious appetite of AI LLMs which regurgitate them as digitized oracles. The PETITSTAPIS are a small act of defiance, a pause, a slow interval in the current rush to the future. These are different avatars arising from the same set of ideas. These have a syntax of forms and a grammar of colors. They can be open, easy on the eyes and yet sometimes hermetic, difficult to decipher. They are also full of “scruples“ , little pebbles on the road to stumble upon, making the time stop for a short while and the journey ultimately rewarding.
The PETITSTAPIS harbor no hidden purpose or meaning. Their sole raison d'être is
the pleasure I took painting them, sharing them and eventually letting them go.
They are created to make you smile, to tease and delight you by the colorful worlds they keep revealing.
